I've had to add a new entry for this to update. When I came across this road years ago it was brilliant. Great surface, great bends and thoroughly enjoyed. Now it has changed significantly: - Speed limit has been reduced from 100kph to 80kph through what used to be great high speed sweepers. - Road surface has deteriorated significantly without repairs. Significant potholes and undulations that could cause potential loss of control of motorcycle if hit an unprepared. (Most likely the reason for the speed limit drop as unfortunately the Victorian Government has decided to reduce speed limits as opposed to maintaining roads to reduce costs). - Highway Patrol now regularly visit the area as well. In the past this road was a must include on my trip to the area. Now I have no desire to do it again. It's unlikely speed limits will revert even if the road surface is repaired, leaving this to be a road that you either risk losing your license on, or do at a pace that is suitable for cars, but not bikes.
An enjoyable road. If traveling on the Great Ocean Road and you´re looking for a break from the tourists, it´s worth considering making a loop from Lorne back to Skenes Creek via a circuit. Traffic was relatively light for a weekend.
A nice side road, if you`ve got time. Leaving from Lorne allows you to travel uphill, which I find more enjoyable. Road climbs up the range through scenic bush, winding through 40-60kph bends. Traffic was minimal, but it was mid week when we ran through. Didn`t see any cops & weather was magic. Exciting road !Returned via the Forrest-Apollo Bay Road
